We often see fancy toys in the market, and as we buy the latest ones, we push our old ones to the corner. While these old toys might not be useful to us anymore, they could still give immense joy to someone on the streets. ShwetaChari started an initiative, @Toybank, with a vision to place a toy in the hands of every child in India. Chari started wrapping the donated toys and gave them to those who could not afford them. Having spread smiles on over 8,000 faces. She says, “I started volunteering at a local organisation, teaching math to young boys. After a few weeks there, I realised that the kids were not excited to see me and that demotivated me. I took time off to understand what was going on with the kids. I realised that over the course of the day they had many teachers come in, and barely had any time to play.I started off with a distribution drive. Within a few weeks, we had received thousands of toys. I remember the kids held on to the toys like they were Oscar awards. I felt the need to do this over and over again. That’s how Toybank started.” Chari continues to do her bit to make the lives of these small kids a little better. Chari has been spreading joy for a couple of years now and we admire her spirit. #spreadsmiles
